Supporting Native Excellence

Nellie Tucker Scholarship Fund

The Nellie Tucker Scholarship was established to honor the life, legacy, and enduring impact of Nellie Tucker, a proud tribal member whose strength, compassion, and commitment to community continue to inspire future generations. Deeply rooted in cultural values, family, and education, Nellie believed that knowledge is a powerful tool for empowerment and self-determination.

This scholarship supports tribal members who are pursuing higher education, vocational training, or cultural studies, helping them achieve their academic and personal goals. By investing in education, the fund carries forward Nellie’s vision of opportunity, resilience, and community growth.

Through this scholarship, her legacy lives on — encouraging students to walk confidently in both their cultural heritage and their future aspirations.

The Nellie Tucker Memorial Scholarship is awarded to local Native American students each year to support their continued education and career development. In 2023, 6 graduates from Mariposa County High School received scholarships at an SSMN tribal council meeting where they shared their respective plans for higher education or vocational training. Please contact the Miwumati Family Healing Center at (209) 966-3245 or Penny Long to donate or apply for a scholarship.
